Experts for the environment

Intecus (Ingenieurgesellschaft für Technischen Umweltschutz, an envrionmental engineering and consulting company with the emphasis on waste management) was founded in Berlin in 1985.Scientists and engineers from various disciplines such as environmental engineering, geology, process engineering, biology, industrial engineering, chemistry, water supply and distribution, metallurgy etc. are engaged at the Intecus offices located in Berlin, Dresden, Freiburg, Potsdam, Rotenburg and Saarbrücken. With the innovative ideas, long-term know-how and modern data-processing techniques as well as co-operative partners at home and abroad, the Intecus team is capable and qualified to work on the complex problems of environmental protection. The Intecus team`s experience and expertise covers areas such as consultation, expert opinions, scientific studies, advanced training, experimental investigation, R+D projects, waste processing plant design, commissioning and operation.

Manager Consulting

The practice of consulting and assisting individual companies extends beyond environmentally related issues. Therefore Intecus concentrates on segments of classical management consulting.Business management, technical and legal environmental aspects combine into an overall service which Intecus specifically develops in close coordination with the client and which is carried out for a project or as a continuous program for that company.Intecus environmental auditors are preparing the EC ECO Audit and DIN ISO 14.000 ff environmental DIN ISO 9.000 ff as an instrument for business quality management . This has become indispensable within the European competitive market.Waste service companies in particular may benefit from our vast experience in waste management for cost-structure analyses, optimizing, as well as operational strategies.Calculating cost - effectiveness, profitabillity, market advantages are classic management consulting objectives within the public sector, for private and public waste management companies and disposal site operators. In cost-benefit analysis Intecus consolidates economic and ecological aspects by a valuation of exogenous and endogenous effects in terms of money. The general  sur vey about macro- and micro-econimic  correlations, which is necessary for strategic decisions, is relying on longterm practise-oriented knowledge of markets and management skills.Intecus coordinates its activities with special qualified lawyers who focus on environmental and administrative law.

Waste management

Industry  and Commerce, local authorities, housing societies  and waste service companies require specific solutions for waste management, within their respective areas of responsibility. Economic efficiency and proper waste management often seem to contradict each other. Intecus is a developper of customer-related and cost-oriented waste management concepts for cities, local authorities and waste management associations. Our work encompasses waste management analysis, market research, coparative analysis of strategies, technologies and economics, regionally adapted route planning, creation of liability-orientated fee systems and development of waste management guidelines. Intecus creates branch-orientated concepts for optimum environmental management for small and medium-sized companies, for  industries and for the service sector. To date, several hundred of companies in the metal, printing, paint and vehicle industries have been examined with
regard to their residual waste avoidance and treatement potential.Intecus acts as a consultant to individual companies with the aim to providing integrated environmental protection, from risk management to cost-oriented waste management.Housing societies increasingly pass on rising waste disposal costs to tenants and house owners.Intecus develops concepts for  feereducing recource collection systems, resulting in a reduction of expensive residual waste containers.Setting up containers in line with specific requirements, creating liability-oriented fee systems and converting inefficient container locations are part of the work undertaken by Intecus.

Management of costs and fees

As recources from packaging materials, print products and biological waste are being increasingly collected seperately, residual waste quantities have substantially declined.Waste analysis reports by Intecus have shown that within large housing areas in particular there is still considerable potential for reducing residual waste. Intecus advises clients in the public sector concerned with waste services on how to select the best possible fee system for the waste management situation in the relevant area.Intecus also undertakes to calculate fees. To avoid ever-increasing waste handling fees, optimum procedures need to be found for waste collection,
transport, treatmentfd and disposal. Together with partners in the waste service industry and with clients in the public sector, Intecus analyses ongoing processes and by combining practical knowledge in economics with that of specialists engeneering is able to propose improvements as well as to assist in their implementation,
The introduction of new  waste collection systems must also be valuated from an economical and an ecological point of few.Intecus plans, assists and evaluates experiments to develop and implement low -cost and adapted solutions.

Planning of plants

Intecus undertakes planning independent of manufactures, keeping in mind fluctuating legal requirements. We apply for and handle approval procedures, handle operations and assist commissioning.Intecus plans packaging waste sorting plants, composting plants, demolition  waste sorting plants, composting plants, demolition waste sorting and treatement plants as well as transfer, preparation and treatment plants, composting plants, demolition waste sorting  and treatment plants for household, commercial and hazardous waste. Planning is the result of thorough market research, emissions and logistics inspection procedures, from waste collection to treatment and disposal, with the aim of offering the customer an optimum overall planning concept.Years of in-depth experience regarding plant planning procedures mean that Intecus can handle the processing of all stages of  individually adapted planning and operative measures, even at short notice. As an external
environmental protection manager, Intecus advises operators of waste treatment plants by providing analyses, inspection and declarations of emissions, waste management concepts as well as assisting with environmentally-related legal requirements. In-depth technical, economic and regional knowledge as well as plant know-how are required for planning plants for treatment of residual waste and waste in general.Intecus provides the basis for your certification as a specialist waste service company.Intecus prepares companies for certification as a specialist waste service company and offers specialist training seminares for personnel.

Material flow analyses

As we porogress ever further towards an economy based on recource recovery, finding treatment solutions for specific waste types plays a mayor role. One of the conditions for carrying out high-quality treatment are material flows of a corresponding quality and quantity.A material flow analyses provides precise information to
this end.Over a period of 10 years Intecus has carried out waste analyses of household and commercial waste. This includes methods of observing, classifying and sorting. In addition to the required know-how of our trained specialists, Intecus has the necessary technical equipment for sorting as well as the software programms for carrying out evaluation and projection. Intecus has played an essential part in establishing a guidline for carrying out waste analyses reports in the Free State of Saxony.Commercial waste registers (GAKs) are used for the purpose of analysing and channeling commercial waste.Intecus has developped software which for several years has been put to succesful practical use.The GAK is an integral part of an overall service consisting of data capture by questionaire, visits to operating sites and subsequent evaluation. The results of waste analyses and commercial waste registers form the basis of projections regarding the quality and quantity of waste or of partial waste flows.Intecus calculates projections on the basis of generated data and on the basis of analysing framework developments.Projection calculations provide the basis for waste management concepts.

Contaminated sites & Remediation

Development of discarded industrial areas can prove worthwhile even if these have been contaminated, particulary in areas where reassignment of areas for industrial and commercial use is subject  to stringent regulations.Effecting a balance of interests between a property owner and local authorities with regard to redevelopment is a complex task performed by Intecus.Intecus assists during all stages of property development.Particular careis taken in examining contaminations of buildings
and the inspection of the ground and ground water.Research with regard to the use and history of the terrain minimizes the level of ensuing laboratory analyses, both where determination of the contaminated area as well as where general parameters are concerned.Close cooperation with local authorities is undertaken from the earliest stages onwards. This avoids costly delays or halting a building project at a later date as a result of subsequent demands. If it is confirmed that the area is contaminated, a redevelopment plan will be set up in cooperation with the clients, local authorities and subsequent users. The object is to develop a sound and economically viable concept acceptable to all parties concerned. This forms the basis for operative measures. Our responsibility is thus to manage the redevelopment  and monitor the construction.Laboratory analyses lay down positive proov of a succesful redevelopment for local authorities and offers a sound basis for  subsequent negotiations in case of a sale by the property owner. As an accredited waste expert institute, Intecus provides reports which are officially admitted.

Closed loop economy in building and construction industry

For many years Intecus has been involved in demolition waste recycling management. We have initiated new developments in the areas of controlled demolition and environmentally compatible building sites. Intecus has vast experience as regards planning, tenders, assistance and management of controlled demolition. The feasibility and economic efficiency of controlled demolition as opposed to conventional demolition has been proven time and again. For demolition, Intecus determines the level of demolition for  the specific site taking into account the existing parameters - time involved, area size, conditions for waste disposal - and subsequently develops a detailed demolition plan.Materials which are not mineral-based are removed step by step and later subject to recycling.Mineral-based demolition waste
is prepared, possibly on site, and recycled.A high cost - saving potential in the area of waste disposal costs results in a positive effect on the overall cost.Intecus has
developed a substantial amount of base data for establishing environmentally compatible building sites as well as practical and adaptable concepts.Site - specific building materials and quantities and logistic parameters - time factor, area size, traffic considerations - are the basis for new buildings, conversions, redevelopment.
Intecus plans waste handling logistics for shells and subsequent construction, removal cycles and container volumes, plans monitoring methods and negotiates with waste service companies.Waste management objectives identify with the economic objectives: cost - saving on waste handling costs alone can be 30% and more.

International projects

Intecus has always put an emphasis on maintaining international ties.Public and private clients can draw on our  experience and knowledge gained from over 500 projects.High Western European environmental standards have found their way into management and administrative structures outside Europe not least by way ov environmentally conscious activities and adaption to export standards. International projects are the result of good contacts maintained over  the years with high-level members in buisness, government, associations and in scientificds research.Intecus maintains permanent international contacts to India, China, Southeast Asia, Africa, Central America and East Europe.Cooperation in projects with researchers, planners and lobbyists at home ensure locally feasible as well as permanetly
sound solutions.Intecus is competent in exploiting financing programs and adapting project plans to a great variety of support programs and adapting project plans to a great variety of support programms. In addition to the programs initiated by the European Union, funds are available in the areas or twin town programmes, exchange programmes in education and science, research and development, the marketing of innovative methods, in sponsorship of small and medium - sized companies.
The objective of all Intecus projects is always to improve local aspects of the environment: water treatment, air purification, water supply systems, treatment of household, industrial and hazardous waste.Logistic, organizational, constructional and legal, sicial, buisness and ecilogical aspects are integrated on all levels of planning and concept development.
